European Connector Standards

  • Type 2 (Mennekes IEC 62196-2): The universal EU standard for AC charging at home Wallboxes and public AC points. Supports 3.7 kW to 22 kW. All new PHEVs sold in Europe include a Type 2 inlet.
  • CCS Combo 2 (Combined Charging System): Adds DC fast-charging capability to the Type 2 connector. Used by an increasing number of PHEVs (e.g. Skoda Kodiaq iV, VW Tiguan, BMW) for 50 kW DC charging.
  • Schuko / Mode 2 (Domestic socket): Standard household plug with an in-cable control box (ICCB) for safe home charging at 2.3 kW. Included with most PHEVs as the emergency charging cable.
